Sutiyoso wants no fun on holiday

JAKARTA: Governor Sutiyoso reaffirmed on Wednesday the closure of entertainment spots across the capital for three days in observance of the Islamic Day of Sacrifice, or Idul Adha, which falls on Feb. 1.

"This is routine procedure ... so we expect no violations this year," Sutiyoso said.

The administration issued a circular on Monday that said businesses such as massage parlors, saunas, night clubs, karaoke bars, discotheques, traditional health clinics and billiard centers are to be closed from Jan. 31 until 10 a.m. on Feb. 2.

The policy does not apply to those business operating in major hotels.

"People have to respect each other, especially during religious holidays. (The closure) is only for two nights ... if (the businesses) reject this, it is unacceptable," he said. -- JP
