Sutiyoso stops construction at port

JAKARTA: Governor Sutiyoso has ordered state port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesian (Pelindo) to stop the construction of shop houses on Jl. Enggano, Tanjung Priok, as the firm had not obtained building permits.

"Moreover, there no master spatial plan has been designed for the port area, either by the port operator or the North Jakarta administration. Therefore, any construction going on there should be halted," North Jakarta mayor Effendi Anas was quoted on Friday by Antara.

Effendi said Sutiyoso had ordered Pelindo to make a spatial plan for the area and submit it to his office for approval.

The governor's instruction comes at a time when most of the Enggano Megah shop houses are finished, with some already sold. -- JP
