Sustainable Mobility Transition Requires Collaboration Across All Stakeholders

The transition towards more sustainable mobility requires the involvement of all stakeholders, according to the Chairman of the Indonesia Center for Mobility Studies (ICMS), Munawar Chalil. He stated that this shift cannot be built from a single viewpoint but requires open, data-driven dialogue.

Speaking at a discussion forum on electrification in Tangerang on Wednesday, Chalil noted that all stakeholders in the industrial ecosystem have equal rights and obligations to voice their aspirations. This is to ensure the future sustainability of the industry.

Chalil pointed to significant market growth, noting that electrified vehicle sales surged by approximately 68 per cent in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period the previous year. “This is a very significant change occurring in a relatively short time. These figures show that Indonesia has entered a new phase in its journey towards electrification,” he said.

Given Indonesia’s vast archipelagic nature, Chalil stressed that solutions must accommodate the country’s diverse geographical, cultural, and social conditions. He argued that a forum involving industry players, academics, observers, and the media is crucial for exchanging views on the direction of electrification.

“Every technology has its own advantages, challenges, and roles. The important thing is how all stakeholders can work together to build an ecosystem that provides the greatest benefit to society, strengthens national industrial competitiveness, and supports sustainable development targets,” he concluded.
