JAKARTA: Indonesia will hold an international exhibition titled World Sustainable Development Expo 2002 in Nusa Dua, Bali from June 4 to June 7.
The exhibition will be held in conjunction with a meeting of the Fourth Preparatory Committee Meeting (PrepCom) for the Ministerial Level World Summit on Sustainable Development at the same venue from May 27 to June 7, Erna Witoelar, chairperson of the PrepCom committee, said on Wednesday.
Erna explained that Indonesia was selected as the host country for the fourth PrepCom based on a decision of the United Nations' General Assembly No.A/RES/55/199 dated Dec. 20, 2000. The first three PrepCom meetings were held in New York.
The PrepCom meeting is expected to be attended by about 6,000 delegates and 350 ministers from 189 countries, she said.
The result of the PrepCom meeting in the form of a resolution on sustainable development will be further deliberated and endorsed at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, South Africa, from Aug. 26 and Sept. 4, she said.
Erna explained that the exhibition would display developmental achievements in provinces, regencies and municipalities throughout the country with the participation of private companies and local and international organizations. -- Antara
