Suspension of Detention for 5 Chicken Thief Assault Suspects Not Yet Granted

The legal counsel for the five suspects in the beating of KD, a chicken thief in Banjar Juwuk Legi, Batunya Village, Baturiti District, recently submitted a request for suspension of detention to the Tabanan Police. However, the police have not been able to grant the request.

Tabanan Police Chief AKBP I Putu Bayu Pati confirmed that the legal advisers of the five suspects came to the Tabanan Police headquarters to submit the request for suspension of detention. Bayu Pati stressed, however, that the request could not be granted because the police are still awaiting the toxicology and exhumation results for KD.

“It is true that a request for suspension of detention was submitted. It is still being processed, as the case is still in the investigation stage, so the request for suspension cannot yet be granted,” Bayu Pati explained.

The Tabanan Police are still waiting for the toxicology and exhumation results from the hospital. The results of these examinations will serve as a reference for the next steps in the process, including whether the request for suspension of detention can be granted.

Regarding the claim by the suspects’ legal counsel that KD actually died not at the hands of Juwuk Legi residents, Bayu Pati stressed that this matter cannot yet be made public because it is part of the investigation material.

“We cannot disclose that yet, because it is part of the investigation material. Please wait,” he asserted.

He said that the number of suspects in the beating of KD remains five people. The number of witnesses examined also remains at 30. Bayu Pati also said he did not rule out the possibility of additional suspects being named.

Previously, the legal team for the customary residents of Banjar Juwuk Legi highlighted the alleged involvement of parties from outside the village in the death of the chicken thief in the area. The residents’ legal team consists of a number of advocates, including Nyoman Agung Sariawan and Gede Sumarjaya. They said they had found statements indicating that outsiders also took part in beating KD.

“We found statements from two people that apart from the Juwuk Legi residents who secured and subdued the perpetrator, there were other people from outside Juwuk Legi who are suspected of committing violence,” said Sumarjaya during a press conference in Denpasar on Thursday (13/8/2026).
