Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police have revealed that suspects prepared a WhatsApp communication group and cable ties before abducting and assaulting a new employee, identified by the initials AL, at a padel court in the Kebayoran Lama area, South Jakarta.

“It is true, before the incident, suspect AS had planned it and created a WhatsApp group. Besides the cable ties, the tool used by the suspects was a car,” said Iptu Ahmad Maswan, Head of the Mobile Investigation Unit at the South Jakarta Police Criminal Investigation Unit, during a press conference at the South Jakarta Metro Police headquarters on Thursday.

He explained that the criminal acts of false imprisonment, assault, and battery against the victim AL occurred on Sunday, 21 June 2026, at 11.00 a.m. Western Indonesia Time. At the time, the victim was at home and was picked up by other employees because he was suspected of stealing a padel racket.

The victim was then taken to the padel office in a white Daihatsu Sigra for further questioning. Upon arrival, AL was taken to a ground-floor warehouse, where his hands were bound with white cable ties by DK, who works as a security guard.

“So, these cable ties were already prepared when the victim was picked up from his residence in Kostrad, North Petukangan,” Ahmad stated.

On Monday, 22 June 2026, the victim was moved to a freight lift room. The suspects, identified as ASW, RRK, and AH, confronted the victim and proceeded to assault and beat him. On Tuesday, 23 June 2026, at 5.00 a.m. Western Indonesia Time, the victim managed to escape from the confinement with the help of a security guard.

“From the investigation, he was allowed to leave by one of the security personnel who informed him,” Ahmad said. The victim immediately returned home to seek help from his family. “The victim informed his family that he had been abused and asked his mother to help compensate for the theft he had committed,” Ahmad revealed.

Following the report, the South Jakarta Police Mobile Investigation Team followed up by visiting the crime scene. Officers secured the suspects along with evidence, including a white cable tie, an iPhone 14 Pro, a Motorola mobile phone, an iPhone 11, a Vivo mobile phone, the white Daihatsu Sigra used by the perpetrators to pick up the victim, and the medical examination results.

The suspects face charges under Article 446 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison, and/or Article 262, which carries a five-year sentence, and Article 466, which carries a two-year and six-month sentence, under Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.
