Suspects in Central Lombok Islamic Boarding School Fire Case Examined by NTB Police

Two suspects in the case of three students who were burned at the Pondok Pesantren Rosudatussaulatiyah Al Ibrahimy in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), have been examined by NTB Regional Police investigators. The suspects are the head of the Islamic boarding school, Ahmad Muzakki Rahmatullah, known as AMR, and MR (15), a fellow student and friend of the victims.

AMR arrived at the NTB Regional Police headquarters wearing a blue robe with a white turban on his head on Monday (20/7/2026). His right hand held a walking stick. He was accompanied by his wife and his legal counsel but declined to comment extensively on the case. “Only my legal counsel will answer. I have handed it over, he will convey it later,” AMR said on Monday.

AMR’s lawyer, Emil Siain, confirmed his client was being examined as a suspect but did not detail the examination material. “Yes, as a suspect,” Emil said briefly. MR’s legal counsel, Aan Ramadhan, similarly stated his presence at the NTB Regional Police was to accompany MR during the examination. “We are accompanying him,” he said.

Previously, the Director of Women and Children Protection and Human Trafficking Crime Investigation at the NTB Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Ni Made Pujawati, stated that the police were not conducting a new investigation. She said the legal process was continuing the existing investigation. “Continuing the investigation,” Pujawati disclosed on Friday (17/7).

AMR and MR are charged under Article 474, paragraphs 2 and 3, of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment. Both are considered negligent, resulting in the death and serious injury of the victims. The three students who were burned are Ahmad Deven Ramdan (14), Sahid Al Hudri, and Muhamad Sahril Sobirin, who has died.
