A civil coalition is urging the formation of an independent Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF) to resolve the acid attack case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus.

The Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) expressed this demand following separate press conferences by the police and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) on Wednesday (18/3). They emphasised the importance of handling the case transparently.

“Well, here we are even more convinced of the need for an independent TGPF (Joint Fact-Finding Team),” said Alghiffari Aqsa from AMAR Law Firm in a written statement on Wednesday (18/3).

“This needs to be addressed by a fact-finding team to broaden the scope. What is the target of this attack? It might not just be Andrie.”

“We also want to emphasise that we are increasingly convinced that a TGPF is necessary,” he stressed.

Suspected major operation

Alghiffari Aqsa, who is also Andrie Yunus’s legal representative from TAUD, suspects a major operation conducted by an institution related to the acid attack case.

This is based on the number of suspected perpetrators, believed to be more than just the four individuals mentioned by the TNI in the 18 March press conference.

“To emphasise that this is a general criminal case but constitutes a major operation carried out by an institution, thus creating a conflict of interest if examined by Puspom,” he stated.

“Why do we say it’s a major operation? Earlier, we found it’s not just four people.”

“We want this to reach the intellectual actors and funders of this operation. And it could be that the operation is not a small one but a major operation,” Alghiffari Aqsa asserted firmly.

The TNI’s Military Police Centre (Puspom) has detained four TNI personnel suspected of involvement in the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus.

TNI’s Danpuspom Major General Yusri Nuryanto stated that the four suspected perpetrators have been arrested for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the police suspect that the perpetrators of the acid attack on Andrie Yunus number more than four, with only two faces revealed to the public so far.

Director of General Criminal Investigation at Metro Jaya Police, Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, said that the acid splashing action was indeed planned.

This conclusion is based on CCTV footage collected, showing that the perpetrators followed and monitored the victim since leaving the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on 12 March 2026.
