Suspected West Jakarta Burglary Suspect Arrested While Refuelling
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Criminal Investigation Unit of the West Jakarta Metro Police arrested a man suspected of involvement in an aggravated burglary at an unoccupied house while he was refuelling.
The burglary was allegedly committed by a 29-year-old man identified by the initial R at an empty house at Jalan Kamboja Ujung No. 12, Kota Bambu Utara, Palmerah district, West Jakarta.
“Officers went to the location and secured the man while he was buying fuel from a roadside seller beneath the Tomang flyover,” West Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit chief AKBP Edy Sudarma Korniawan said when contacted in Jakarta on Monday.
Edy said R was arrested at about 5pm on Monday in the Jalan Tomang Raya area of West Jakarta while buying fuel.
He said the arrest followed a public report about the burglary, which had taken place some time earlier. Acting on the report, the Jatanras operational team carried out a series of inquiries and eventually located the suspect.
After his arrest, the suspect was taken to West Jakarta Metro Police headquarters for questioning and further investigation.
“We also seized several pieces of evidence: a crowbar, a screwdriver and a wallet belonging to the suspect,” Edy said.
The suspect faces charges under Article 477 of the Criminal Code concerning aggravated theft.
Edy said the operation was part of the Criminal Investigation Unit’s commitment to maintaining neighbourhood security, including preventing thefts targeting homes whose residents are away.
He urged the public to remain vigilant, make sure doors and windows are locked when leaving home, and ask neighbours or security officers to keep an eye on their homes if they will be away for a period of time.
