Suspected Serial Arsonist Targets Homes and National Flag in Bandung

A mysterious man suspected of carrying out a series of arson attacks in Bandung, West Java, was caught on CCTV setting fire to a resident’s house in the early hours of Tuesday, 4 August. The incident occurred on Jalan Karasak Tengah II, Astanaanyar district, while the occupants were asleep.

In the footage, the man is seen approaching the building, which is attached to a meatball soup stall, and igniting a fire at the front before calmly leaving the scene. The flames quickly grew and engulfed part of the structure. Fortunately, neighbours who noticed the fire shouted to wake the residents, allowing everyone inside to escape without physical injury.

The homeowner, Usep, and his son, Asrap, stated they were still in shock over the incident. They expressed hope that the police would swiftly arrest the perpetrator to prevent further attacks that could endanger the community.

This arson is believed to be linked to a previous incident in the Andir district, where the same suspect allegedly burned the Indonesian national flag, the Red and White, hanging in front of a resident’s house. The Bandung Police Criminal Investigation Unit is currently processing the crime scene, analysing CCTV evidence, and gathering witness statements. Police have urged the public to remain calm and to immediately report any information that could lead to the suspect’s capture.
