Suspected robber shot to death
Police said that an officer shot to death a member of a gang of five who robbed passengers of a 12-seat Mikrolet minivan in front of the Mayasari Bakti bus pool on Jl. Lt. Gen. Sutoyo in Cililitan, East Jakarta.
Pos Kota reported that Second Sgt. Anggiat, who tried to foil the robbery, shot two of the suspects as they stabbed him in the chest.
One of the suspects, identified as Kuat Ginting, 20, a resident of Cililitan, Kramat Jati, died instantly while the other who was shot, identified only as HP, 28, is still hospitalized at Kramat Jati police hospital. Sgt. Anggiat was also treated at the hospital.
Another suspect, whose identity was withheld by police, was captured by area residents.
But two other suspects are still at large.
The robbery, according to Ronny Eka Siti, 33, one of the victims, took place at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday not long after the minivan plying the Kampung Melayu-Gandaria route picked up passengers in front of the Mayasari Bus pool.
Pardi, 46, the driver of the minivan, could do nothing to help his passengers because the suspects, who were armed with machetes and knives, threatened to kill him. (has)
