Three residents became victims of a male dog bite during a community gathering in Tegal Badeng Timur Village, Negara District, Jembrana Regency. The dog was found dead suddenly the next day with symptoms resembling rabies.

The incident occurred on Monday (15/6/2026). The case began when residents were gathered at a celebration. Suddenly, the dog, aged around three years, arrived and immediately attacked people at the location.

While residents were still gathered, the yellowish-brown male dog suddenly bit several people. The dog was chased away but returned to attack. The animal only left after being pelted with objects and forcibly driven away by residents.

“Based on our data collection, it is confirmed that there was a case of a Rabies-Transmitting Animal (HPR) bite. The dog’s aggressive actions resulted in three people suffering bite wounds, two of whom are still toddlers,” said the Head of Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health at the Jembrana Food and Agriculture Office, I Gusti Ngurah Putu Sugiarta, when confirmed on Tuesday (16/6/2026).

Sugiarta explained that the three victims sustained different bite wounds. The first victim, named Sodikun (47), suffered a wound on his left calf, followed by Husain (5) with a wound on his right thigh, and the last victim, Nara (4).

“According to information from the local neighbourhood chief, victim Nara is known not to have been taken to the community health centre for medical treatment or Anti-Rabies Vaccine (VAR),” Sugiarta stated.

After briefly escaping following the eviction by residents, the dog showed suspicious clinical symptoms. In the early hours of Tuesday (16/6/2026) around 03.00 Wita, the dog was seen experiencing incoordination or body movement disorders.

Not long afterwards, in the morning, the dog was found dead. To date, the vaccination status of the pedigree dog is not known for certain. The dog’s owner is reportedly ill, resulting in the pet being poorly cared for.

“We have taken a brain sample from the dog to confirm its rabies status, and are tracing the victims so they can promptly receive complete VAR injections. The dog has also been buried by residents,” Sugiarta concluded.
