Suspected Pineapple Grenade Found in Bekasi, Gegana Deployed
BEKASI – A suspected pineapple-shaped grenade was found in Duren Jaya Permai Housing Estate, Aren Jaya Village, Bekasi Timur District, on Saturday evening (30 May 2026), according to police. AKP Suparyono, Head of Public Relations for Bekasi Kota Metropolitan Police, said the item was initially discovered by a sanitation worker while collecting trash from a bin. ‘Yes, that’s correct. It was found this afternoon; it’s suspected to be a pineapple grenade, shaped like one. It was the garbage collector who found it,’ Suparyono told Kompas.com by phone on Saturday night. After discovering the suspicious object, the sanitation worker reported it to the local neighbourhood management. The neighbourhood officials then notified the Bekasi Timur Police Station, which contacted the Polda Metro Gegana unit. ‘They reported it to the RT/RW, then to the local police station, which then contacted the Polda Metro Gegana unit. There was only one item,’ Suparyono said. Police have not yet confirmed whether the object is an active grenade or merely a replica. ‘The Forensic Laboratory (Puslabfor) will determine whether it’s genuine. The key point is that it resembles a grenade; only Puslabfor can confirm that,’ he added. Suparyono stressed that the handling of the suspicious item followed standard operating procedures.
