Suspected Perpetrators of Acid Attack on KontraS Activist from TNI's BAIS Unit
Commander of the TNI Military Police Unit (Danpuspom) Major General Yusri Nuryanto stated that the suspected perpetrators of the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus are from TNI elements. They are from the Headquarters Detachment of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (Denma BAIS), from the Navy (AL) and Air Force (AU) branches. “We state that the four (suspected perpetrators) are allegedly members of Denma BAIS TNI,” said Yusri during a press conference at TNI Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Wednesday (18/3). Yusri explained that the four TNI members are suspected of being involved in the acid attack on Andrie Yunus on 12 March. The four are currently secured at the TNI Military Police Headquarters for further investigation. “Regarding the four suspected suspects, the first is initialled NDP, the second SL, the third BHW, the fourth ES,” he said. According to Yusri, NDP holds the rank of captain. Meanwhile, SL and BHW hold the rank of first lieutenant, and ES holds the rank of second sergeant. Yusri stated that the four suspected perpetrators are currently charged under Article 467 of the 2023 Criminal Code. The penalty is imprisonment from 4 to 7 years. Andrie Yunus became the victim of an acid attack by unknown persons on Thursday (12/3) night. The attack resulted in injuries to Andrie’s hands and feet as well as vision disturbances. Medical examination results state that Andrie suffered 24 percent burns. President Prabowo Subianto has ordered National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to thoroughly investigate this case.
