The Mobile Detective Unit (Subdit Resmob) of the General Crimes Directorate of Metro Jaya Regional Police has arrested a man with the initials SA, suspected of murder in the case of a body found in a sack at Tanah Merah, Depkes Estate, Pancoran Mas Subdistrict, Depok City.

Head of Unit 1 of the Subdit Resmob, Commissioner Dimitri Mahendra Kartika, said the suspect was apprehended in Banten whilst attempting to flee.

“The suspect was arrested by the Subdit Resmob Team of Metro Jaya Regional Police on Wednesday, 5 August 2026, at 04.15 Western Indonesia Time, in Pandeglang, Banten, whilst on the run,” said Dimitri when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday (5/8).

Investigators are still conducting intensive questioning to establish the connection and relationship between SA and the victim, whose body was discovered on Tuesday (4/8). Police are also searching for parts of the victim’s body that have yet to be found.

“The investigation is ongoing. Further information will be provided later,” said Dimitri briefly.

Previously, police confirmed that the unidentified man’s body was found bound in a field in the Pancoran Mas area of Depok. The condition of the body gave rise to strong suspicions that the victim was the subject of a mutilation crime.

“When found, the body’s hands were tied, wrapped in a sack and black plastic,” explained the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Depok Metro Police, AKBP Made Gede Oka Utama.

Made revealed that when the body was evacuated, only the head, torso and both hands remained. Both legs up to the tops of the thighs were missing. Officers also found sharp incision wounds on the victim’s neck area.

To identify the victim and ascertain the exact cause of death, the body is currently at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital undergoing an autopsy with a team of forensic doctors.

“Therefore, we will announce the victim’s identity once we have confirmation,” Made concluded.
