Suspected Perpetrator of Bomb Threat at South Jakarta Primary School Arrested

Police have arrested a man with the initials MY (34) suspected of sending a bomb threat to SDN Srengseng Sawah 15 in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta.

“As for the perpetrator, one person with the initials MY, who lives near the location of the school, has been secured,” said Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Budi Hermanto, speaking to journalists on Monday (13/7).

The suspect was immediately taken to the South Jakarta Metro Police headquarters for intensive questioning, including to establish his motive for sending the bomb threat.

“Investigators are still probing the purpose and motive of the individual concerned,” he said.

The bomb threat occurred at SDN Srengseng Sawah 15 Pagi in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, on Monday (13/7), coinciding with the first day of the school environment introduction programme (MPLS). The MPLS activities at the school were immediately dispersed as a result of the bomb threat.

“It has been disbanded; we have coordinated with all parties. Parents were panicking. The pupils have now gone home,” he said.

Nurma also said the school had obtained the identity of the sender of the threatening message, although she did not disclose it.

“We already have the identity. So we then searched for them, and everything will certainly be followed up against the suspect, namely the alleged perpetrator of the terror itself,” she said.

Jagakarsa Police Chief Kompol Nurma Dewi confirmed that the situation at the school was safe following a sweep conducted by the Gegana team, the National Police’s Densus 88, the BNPT and tracker dogs, or K9 units.

“So all of them have declared the site safe, both Gegana and then Densus 88 and the tracker dogs, which carried out their duties for four hours, declaring it safe,” said Nurma.
