Suspected Mortar Found at TMII Pavilion

An object suspected to be a mortar was found around the West Sumatra Pavilion area of Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), East Jakarta, on Wednesday (1/7).

The discovery occurred while a cleaning officer was tidying the area around 11:05 WIB.

The find was subsequently reported to the Cakung Police Sector. Following the report, officers immediately arrived at the location to conduct an inspection.

“Upon arriving at the scene, it was confirmed that one suspected mortar unit had been found,” said AKP Made Budi, Head of Public Relations for the East Jakarta Metro Police, in a statement.

Officers from the Cakung Police Sector then reported the discovery to the East Jakarta Metro Police and the Gegana team of the Polda Metro Jaya.

At approximately 14:00 WIB, six personnel from the Polda Metro Jaya Gegana team and the Inafis unit of the East Jakarta Metro Police arrived at the location to evacuate the mortar.

“At 14:38 WIB, the activity was completed and the situation is conducive,” said Made.

According to TMII Corporate Communication, Emerensia Ken Elsa, the discovered mortar is not dangerous. She stated that the mortar was found in a hidden, covered area.

“We can inform you that the object found, suspected to be an old mortar, is not dangerous. The object was located in an area covered by dense trees, making it previously invisible,” said Elsa.

Furthermore, Elsa explained that as an anticipatory measure and in accordance with security procedures, the management has coordinated with the police.

“Based on the results of the field handling, the object has been successfully secured by the Gegana team, and the condition of the TMII area is currently safe and continues to operate normally,” she added.
