Suspected Mortar Found at TMII Pavilion

A suspected mortar was discovered in the area of the Sumatera Barat pavilion at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), East Jakarta, on Wednesday (1/7). The discovery began when a cleaner was tidying the area around 11:05 WIB. The finding was then reported to the Cakung Police. Following the report, officers immediately went to the location to conduct an inspection. “Upon arriving at the scene, it was confirmed that one suspected mortar unit had been found,” said Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaktim Police, AKP Made Budi, in a statement. Members of the Cakung Police then reported the discovery to the Metro Jaktim Police and the Polda Metro Jaya Gegana team. At around 14:00 WIB, six personnel from the Polda Metro Jaya Gegana team and the Metro Jaktim Police Inafis arrived at the location to evacuate the mortar. “At 14:35 WIB, the activity was completed and the situation was conducive,” said Made. Corporate Communication of TMII, Emerensia Ken Elsa, stated that the mortar found was not dangerous. She said the mortar was found in a closed area, hidden from view. “We can convey that the object found is suspected to be an old mortar and is not dangerous. The object was in an area covered by dense trees so it was previously not visible,” said Elsa. Furthermore, Elsa explained that as an anticipatory measure and in accordance with security procedures, her party had coordinated with the police. “Based on the results of handling in the field, the object has been successfully secured by the Gegana Team and the condition of the TMII area is currently safe and continues to operate normally,” she said.
