Suspected gas leak causes Afterhour Poins Square fire in South Jakarta
JAKARTA - A bar and billiards venue named Afterhour in Poins Square, Cilandak, South Jakarta, caught fire on Monday (25 May 2026). Fourteen fire engines were deployed to contain the blaze. South Jakarta Fire Department Officer in Charge Anwar Kasim stated the fire was likely caused by a gas leak on the second-floor kitchen. The incident was reported to firefighters at around 7:20pm WIB and extinguished by 7:35pm WIB. Anwar said staff attempted to extinguish the flames using fire extinguishers, but the fire spread, necessitating professional intervention. ‘With the staff’s preparedness at the cafe, they could use the fire extinguisher to put out the initial flames. However, the fire continued to burn and spread, so the fire department was called,’ Anwar explained. One person sustained minor injuries and was taken to Pondok Indah Hospital. On-site observations showed the bar building was dark, with the LED sign dimmed. Debris from the building’s facade was scattered in the parking area. Outside, activity at the bar was minimal, with several staff sitting on sofas near the entrance. BPBD and Satpol PP officers were coordinating in front. ‘We don’t know yet if operations will continue. There’s no guidance yet, and we’re still in shock,’ they said.
