Suspected Factory Using Sailfin Catfish for Food Processing to Face Surprise Inspection!
JAKARTA - The East Jakarta City Government plans to carry out a surprise inspection (sidak) on a factory suspected of utilising sailfin catfish as raw material. This was stated by East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin after conducting an operation to capture sailfin catfish in the Kramat Jati area. “To ensure that the public does not utilise or consume sailfin catfish, the Sub-Directorate of Food Security, Maritime Affairs, and Agriculture (KPKP) will conduct surprise inspections and periodic monitoring at siomay factories or similar places,” explained Munjirin at the site of the sailfin catfish capture in Kramat Jati on Friday (17/4/2026). “The important thing is that we continue to provide warnings and educate the public on the dangers of consuming sailfin catfish,” Munjirin added. Furthermore, Munjirin plans to provide incentives to residents who help capture sailfin catfish. “For the public who carry out the capture (of sailfin catfish), perhaps we can replace it with a financial value. We will discuss this with the Deputy Mayor, the Secretary, the Assistants, and the East Jakarta Baznas Bazis,” explained Munjirin. Previously, the East Jakarta City Government conducted an operation to capture sailfin catfish in the Ciliwung River, Kramat Jati, East Jakarta. From Kompas.com’s observations, the operation was directly led by East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin. Before the capture began, the mayor gave instructions to the officials of the Sub-Directorate of Food Security, Maritime Affairs, and Agriculture (KPKP) East Jakarta, as well as the district heads and village heads. Subsequently, he netted the sailfin catfish using a net from a rubber boat. The captured fish were first killed before being placed into a hole for burial.
