Suspected Extortion Scheme by Tulungagung Regent Involves Resignation Letter
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) suspects dismissed Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo of using a resignation letter to extort district apparatus within the Tulungagung Regency Government in East Java. Currently, the KPK is delving into the chronology of the resignation statement’s creation by examining nine witnesses. The letter has been signed and bears a stamp but lacks a date. “In today’s examination of the witnesses, investigators are delving into the chronology of the resignation statement’s creation, which is then suspected to have been used as a tool to threaten and carry out extortion by the Regent,” stated KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in Jakarta on Wednesday (22/4). Meanwhile, the nine witnesses examined by the KPK include AW, Head of the Protocol Section of the Tulungagung Regency Regional Secretariat; JTR, Staff of the Protocol Section of the Tulungagung Regency Regional Secretariat; MMM, Head of the Public Welfare Section of the Tulungagung Regency Regional Secretariat; as well as AL and MG, Personal Secretaries to the Tulungagung Regent. Additionally, FH, Head of the Culture Division of the Tulungagung Culture and Tourism Office; SO, Head of the Tulungagung Agriculture Office; RP, Head of the Tulungagung Social Office; and HTO, Head of the Tulungagung Civil Service Police Unit. Previously, the KPK conducted a sting operation (OTT) in Tulungagung, East Java, on Friday (10/4). The KPK arrested 18 people in that operation, including Gatut Sunu Wibowo and his sibling, Tulungagung DPRD member Jatmiko Dwijo Saputro. A day later, the KPK brought Gatut Sunu Wibowo and his sibling, along with 11 others, to Jakarta for intensive examination. On the same date, the KPK announced Gatut Sunu Wibowo (GSW) and Dwi Yoga Ambal (YOG), his aide, as suspects in the alleged extortion and other receipts case within the Tulungagung Regency Government for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. The KPK suspects Gatut Sunu Wibowo received up to Rp2.7 billion from a target of Rp5 billion from 16 heads of regional apparatus organisations (OPD) within the Tulungagung Regency Government.
