Suspected Chicken Thief Killed by Mob in Tabanan Had Long Criminal Record in Badung
A suspected chicken thief with the initials KD, who died after being beaten by residents in Banjar Dinas Juwuk Legi, Baturiti Subdistrict, Tabanan, turned out to have a long record with the police. Before being killed by the mob, KD was known to have been listed as a Target of Operations (TO) of the Badung Police Criminal Investigation Unit.
“It is true that the individual was previously a Target of Operations for theft cases within the jurisdiction of the Badung Police. However, when the arrest was attempted, the individual fled,” said Head of the Public Information Sub-Division of the Badung Police, Ipda Ni Nyoman Yuni Eltari, on Wednesday (29/7/2026).
KD had previously served a prison sentence for a clove theft case in 2018. In addition, he was also suspected of involvement in a series of thefts in Badung Regency, ranging from breaking into a laptop shop in Abiansemal, a mobile phone counter, to chicken theft in the Petang Subdistrict area.
“According to the Badung Criminal Investigation Unit, several criminal cases occurred in the Mengwi and Petang areas,” he continued.
The police had repeatedly attempted to arrest KD at his hiding places, including at his residence in Buleleng. However, every attempt failed because KD always managed to escape.
KD’s flight came to an end when he allegedly stole two chickens in Baturiti, Tabanan. During the act, KD was suspected of carrying a sharp weapon and a catapult. Troubled residents then surrounded him, leading to a beating that claimed his life.
The Tabanan Police have now named five residents as suspects in the beating case. Meanwhile, the Badung Police have secured a number of pieces of evidence related to the alleged crimes previously committed by KD.
