The suspected cause of the fire that struck the Pullman Hotel in the West Jakarta area has begun to emerge. The Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) suspects the incident was triggered by electrical issues or an electrical phenomenon occurring within the building.

Despite thick plumes of smoke and flames visible from outside the building, the fire was successfully extinguished in a short period. Officials confirmed that the firefighting process was completed on Saturday, 1 August 2026.

Fire Department Suspects Electrical Phenomenon

Based on initial handling results, Gulkarmat DKI Jakarta suspects the source of the fire originated from an electrical phenomenon. “The suspected cause is an electrical phenomenon on the 2nd floor,” stated the Jakarta Gulkarmat Command Centre on Saturday. However, this remains a preliminary suspicion, as the exact cause is awaiting further investigation by the relevant authorities.

Fire Successfully Extinguished Quickly

The firefighting operation was declared complete at 09:15 WIB. Firefighters required approximately 10 minutes to control the flames once the extinguishing process began. The fire response operation itself commenced at 08:05 WIB after officers received reports from the scene.

To tackle the blaze, Gulkarmat deployed 70 personnel and 14 fire engines to the Pullman Hotel. The rapid response of the officers ensured the fire was localised, preventing it from spreading to other sections of the building.

Incident Discovered During Building Inspection

The fire was first detected by hotel security personnel conducting routine inspections in the emergency stairwell area. At approximately 07:54 WIB, security staff noticed the smell of smoke while checking the P5 floor. Upon further investigation, the source of the fire was identified on the P4 floor.

“The chronology is as follows: at 07:54 WIB, a security guard checking the emergency stairs on the P5 floor smelled smoke. Upon inspection, fire was found on the P4 floor. They attempted to extinguish it using portable fire extinguishers (APAR), but were unable to put it out, subsequently notifying the local Sub-Department Office,” explained a Gulkarmat representative.

Before the arrival of the fire brigade, security personnel had attempted to suppress the flames using portable fire extinguishers.
