Suspected Cause of Bekasi Train Accident That Killed 7 People
The fatal train accident involving the long-distance Argo Bromo Anggrek, which collided with an electric rail train (KRL), has so far claimed seven lives. The main cause of the accident that occurred at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday evening (27/4/2026) is still under investigation.
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) President Director Bobby Rasyidin revealed that the incident happened at 20:52 WIB. The accident is suspected to have started when a commuter line train struck a green Green SM taxi at the railway crossing near Bulak Kapal, East Bekasi.
“This incident happened just before 9 o’clock, starting with the taxi being hit at JPL 85. This is what we suspect disrupted the railway system in the platform area of Bekasi Timur Station, and that’s the chronology,” said Bobby in a statement video from the Ministry of Transportation on Tuesday (28/4/2026), as reported by detikFinance.
“Of course, we are leaving it to the KNKT to investigate the cause of this train accident in more detail,” Bobby added.
Bobby further explained that the evacuation process for the victims began with cutting the damaged train carriages. “We have cut the Argo Bromo Anggrek train consist, part of the consist, perhaps half of it has been pulled to Bekasi,” said Doddy.
Additionally, according to Bobby, the victims of this accident were passengers on the KRL. “(The victims) are on the KRL, in the last carriage of the KRL,” Bobby stated.
