Suspected burglars held

JAKARTA (JP): South Jakarta Police District arrested on Saturday members of a gang suspected of having robbed the house of a Chinese embassy diplomat, police said.

Chief of the South Jakarta Police district, Lt. Col. Sylvanus Wenas, told reporters yesterday that six men, identified as BP, Odi, Iis, Sur, Jaja and Suk, were arrested in Koja Utara, North Jakarta.

"Police also confiscated sharp weapons, which were found in their possession, and stolen items, including a television set, a mini compo, imitation jewelry, motor cycles and hand bags," Wenas said.

The robbery was reported to have occurred at the house of Chinese diplomat Zhongguo Shen, First Secretary (Consular) at the embassy, last month.

According to police records, the gang has, in the past year, committed seven robberies, all in South Jakarta. In their operations the gang used a car and copied door keys, Wenas said. (01)
