Suspected Bitcoin Mining Operation Busted in Bekasi for Alleged Electricity Theft
A shophouse suspected of being a ‘Bitcoin mine’ in the Tambun Selatan area of Bekasi Regency was raided after it was discovered stealing electricity. Several items and electrical equipment were seized from the shophouse. ‘PLN officers then disconnected the electricity supply and secured a number of pieces of evidence, including cables and other equipment, to the PLN ULP Tambun office,’ said Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, on Friday (2/7/2026). From photographs received by detikcom, items such as blowers and CPUs were visible. Regarding these items, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto stated that authorities could not yet confirm the exact activities conducted inside the shophouse. ‘It is not yet known what the findings indicate,’ Budi Hermanto said. The shophouse was raided on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, following a report to PLN. A PLN meter recording officer initially found suspicious electricity usage that did not comply with regulations at the location. Personnel from the Polres Metro Bekasi Satpamobvit then escorted PLN ULP Tambun officers to the location of the suspected ‘Bitcoin mine’ at Puri Cendana Housing Complex, Tambun Selatan District, Bekasi Regency. Upon inspection, PLN officers discovered evidence of suspected electricity theft at the shophouse. ‘After an inspection by PLN officers accompanied by police personnel, an illegal three-phase electrical connection was found in the shophouse,’ he continued. The discovery of the ‘Bitcoin mine’ shophouse went viral on social media. Footage circulating on social media showed the shophouse being raided. Inside the shophouse, several servers were found with the power still on. The temperature inside the room was reportedly extremely hot due to the use of 33,000 VA of power, which was allegedly stolen.
