Suspected Bitcoin Mine in Bekasi Uncovered After Electricity Theft Discovered
A shophouse in the Tambun Selatan area of Bekasi Regency was raided after it was discovered stealing electricity. The discovery of several objects believed to be servers inside the shophouse has raised suspicions of Bitcoin mining activity. The shophouse was raided on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, following a report from a PLN meter reader. Initially, the officer found evidence of suspected electricity theft. After an inspection, the electricity supply to the shophouse was subsequently disconnected. The case is now under police investigation.
In circulating video footage, various electrical equipment can be seen inside the shophouse. There are also several MCBs still connected to the power supply. The shophouse was described as an illegal Bitcoin mine, with the room temperature inside noted to be very hot. The inspection by PLN officers found that the ‘Bitcoin mine’ was using 33,000 Volt Amperes of power and was using electricity illegally.
The Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, confirmed the incident on Tuesday (30/6/2026). Police officers and PLN officials conducted an inspection of the location. “Regarding this information, on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, personnel from the Satpamobvit of the Bekasi Metro Police secured and supervised P2TL activities by PLN ULP Tambun officers at Puri Cendana Housing, Tambun Selatan District, Bekasi Regency,” explained Commissioner Budi on Thursday (2/7/2026).
Budi Hermanto explained that the incident began with a report from a PLN meter reader who suspected electricity usage was not in accordance with regulations. “After an inspection by PLN officers accompanied by members of the Indonesian National Police, an illegal three-phase electrical connection was found in the shophouse,” he added. Officers then disconnected the electricity supply to the shophouse. “Officers then cut off the electricity supply and secured evidence in the form of cables and several other pieces of equipment to the PLN ULP Tambun Office,” said Budi Hermanto.
The police have not yet been able to confirm the findings at the location. They are currently conducting an in-depth investigation into the allegations. “We are currently investigating. We will provide information soon,” said the Head of Criminal Investigation for the Bekasi Metro Police, AKBP Jerico Levian.
