Suspect Status of Sleman Legislator Raudi Akmal Overturned
The suspect status of Raudi Aklo, in relation to the corruption case involving Sleman Regency grant funds, has been overturned. The son of former Sleman Regent Sri Purnomo escaped legal entanglement after winning a pre-trial motion. The release of the man, who currently serves as a member of the Sleman DPRD, has become one of the most widely accessed news stories in the region over the past week.
Raudi Akmal’s name was previously mentioned during the trial of his father. The corruption case involving tourism grant funds in Sleman Regency also implicated former Regent Sri Purnomo, who was accused of utilising tourism grants for political interests during the 2020 Sleman Regional Head Election (Pilkada). According to the indictment read by Public Prosecutors at the Yogyakarta District Court on 18 December 2025, the grant programme was allegedly directed to support the victory of the Kustini Sri Purnomo and Danang Maharsa pair. Several grant proposals were reportedly collected through a network of victory teams and political volunteers. The trial also mentioned the Chairman of PDIP Sleman, Kuswanto, who served as part of the 2020 victory coalition.
The prosecution stated that the funds from the central Ministry of Tourism were allegedly diverted for election purposes. Prosecutors alleged that Raudi Akmal played an active role in coordinating the collection of grant proposals from community groups and bridging the application process. During the trial, it was revealed that certain proposals were marked with the special code “RA”, linked to the network gathered by Raudi.
Raudi’s role involved conditioning proposals from community groups as grant recipients, which were subsequently formalised through a Regent’s Decree. Prosecutors argued that these actions were carried out in conjunction with Sri Purnomo and resulted in state financial losses. Based on an audit by the BPKP DIY Representative Office, the state losses were estimated at IDR 10.9 billion. Following his designation as a suspect, the legislator had been placed in detention.
However, Raudi Akmal challenged the designation through a pre-trial motion. In a session held on Tuesday (28/7), the court granted the motion in part. Single judge Ari Prabawa, reading the verdict at the Sleman District Court, declared that the suspect designation issued on 22 June 2026 was legally invalid. While the court ruled that the detention already served remained valid, the invalidity of the suspect status necessitated his release from custody. The judge ordered the respondent to release Raudi Akmal immediately following the verdict.
The Sleman District Attorney’s Office has declined to comment extensively on the ruling. The Head of the Sleman District Attorney’s Office, Bambang Yunianto, stated on Wednesday (29/7) that they are still studying the pre-trial decision. He confirmed that the office has complied with the judge’s ruling and released Raudi Akmal from detention yesterday afternoon. Regarding further legal steps, the prosecutor’s office has yet to disclose any plans, pending a full review of the court’s decision.
