Suspect Sony Sonjaya Reveals 41 Politicians Who Requested SPPG Locations
Former National Nutrition Agency (BGN) deputy head and suspect Sony Sonjaya has revealed 41 names of individuals who directly requested locations for Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG) kitchens under the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. The number has risen from the 26 names previously disclosed to investigators at the Attorney General’s Office.
Sony’s lawyer, Krisna Murti, explained that his client provided the names to the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) investigation team on Thursday (18/6/2026) during an examination as a suspect. “So the total number of names, from the 26 previously mentioned, plus those added today, and then three more names mentioned by Mr Sony, brings the total to 41 names,” Krisna said at the Kejagung Round Building in Jakarta.
Krisna stated that during the examination, investigators questioned Sony about the 26 names previously mentioned as having directly communicated to request attention for establishing SPPG kitchens. Investigators also presented evidence of communications via text messages or chat. From a deeper examination of these chats, one individual was found to have sent a list containing a table of names requesting approval for SPPG locations.
“From the 26 names we previously mentioned, one person’s chat was opened. That one person had a table (of SPPG requests). That one person had a table and sent a chat explaining, ‘Sir, this one owns this, this one owns that’,” Krisna recounted Sony’s statement to investigators. Krisna said some of those requesting were regents and politicians, though he declined to disclose any specific names, stating only “they are from political circles.”
Krisna also conveyed Sony’s disclosure to investigators about an individual with the initials NSD. Sony explained that NSD frequently altered the ownership of foundations partnering with SPPG. “NSD, according to Mr Sony’s explanation, changed foundations. This foundation had this name, then changed it to another name, and changed it again to another name,” Krisna said.
Sony stated that NSD changed foundation names and ownership at least three times to obtain SPPG locations. These locations included areas in Madiun, East Java, Tapos in West Java, and Karang Asem. Sony told investigators that NSD made these changes at his direct request, but without following proper procedures and in a forceful manner. Krisna explained that NSD should have sent a formal letter to Sony to request foundation changes, but instead simply told Sony, “just change it.”
Sony is one of five suspects in the MBG corruption case and is among the senior officials from BGN, the sole implementing agency for President Prabowo Subianto’s flagship programme. Other suspects include former BGN head Dadan Hindayana and deputy head Lodewijk Pusung. Investigators have also named Asep Yusuf Somantri, a Sony confidant, as the fourth suspect, followed by Andrew Mulyono, a commissioner of PT Yasa Artha Trimanunggal.
The corruption investigation into the MBG programme consists of several clusters. In the main cluster, investigators uncovered the buying, selling and arranging of MBG kitchen locations, with suspects from BGN’s senior ranks allegedly receiving billions, even trillions, of rupiah. Another cluster involves alleged mark-ups of facilities and infrastructure for the programme, including the purchase of 20,801 electric motorcycles worth Rp 1.1 trillion, as well as 54,000 75-inch televisions and 32,000 pairs of shoes.
