Jakarta — S (28), the alleged perpetrator in the murder of Ermanto Usman, a retired employee of PT Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT), attempted to flee when police arrived to arrest him at his residence in Cilincing, North Jakarta on Monday, 9 March 2026.

Deputy Head of the General Crime Investigation Unit of the Jakarta Metro Police, AKBP Abdul Rahim, stated that the suspect’s escape attempt prompted investigators to take decisive action by shooting both lower legs of the perpetrator.

“It is true that we took firm and measured action against the suspect because he attempted to flee,” Rahim explained at a press conference at Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

Director of General Criminal Investigation of the Jakarta Metro Police, Kombes Pol Iman Imanudin, explained that S killed Ermanto after the victim and his wife discovered the suspect’s burglary attempt.

“Because he panicked, he subsequently attacked the male victim who had awakened and was sitting on the bed,” Iman stated.

The suspect is alleged to have violated Article 458 subsections (1) and (3) as well as Article 479 subsection (3) of the revised Criminal Code, facing a maximum prison sentence of 20 years.

Earlier reports indicated that Ermanto and his wife, Pasmilawati (60), were suspected victims of armed robbery with assault that resulted in death on Monday, 2 March 2026.

Head of Criminal Investigation at Bekasi Metro Police, Kompol Andi Muhammad Iqbal, stated that preliminary indications pointed towards armed robbery although the exact motive remained under investigation.

When discovered, Ermanto was lying on the mattress covered in blood, whilst Pasmilawati was found on the bedroom floor. Ermanto died at the scene, whilst his wife remained in critical condition undergoing intensive hospital treatment.

Initial medical examination revealed both suffered injuries from blunt force trauma to the back of the head. The investigation currently involves personnel from Pondok Gede Police Station, Bekasi Metro Police, and the Jakarta Metro Police’s General Crime Investigation Unit to identify the perpetrator and establish the motive in the case.
