Suspect named in assault case

JAKARTA: Investigators from the internal affairs division at National Police Headquarters have named Second Brig. Darmawan Manik a suspect in the assault on the head of intelligence and security at the North Bogor Police, First Adj. Insp. Wawan Setiawan.

National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Soenarko said on Tuesday investigators had questioned Darmawan, who worked as a driver for Bogor Police chief Sr. Comr. Bambang Wasgito, and found evidence that Darmanik was involved in the assault.

"We requested physical examinations of both assault victims -- Wawan Setiawan and Chief Brig. Santoso Kartono -- and there was evidence that Darmawan was responsible for the assault," Soenarko said.

He said internal affairs investigators would question Bambang to determine whether he ordered the assault or was involved in the attack in any way, as the victims allege. -- JP
