Police have designated a 28-year-old man with initials S as a suspect in the armed robbery and murder of Ermanto Usman, a 65-year-old retired employee of Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT), in Bekasi, West Java. The suspect has been detained immediately.

“The suspect is currently in detention at the Metro Jaya Police detention facility,” said Kombes Iman Imannudin, head of the Criminal Investigation Division of Metro Jaya Police, during a press conference on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

The suspect faces layered charges that carry a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment. “The suspect faces criminal charges under Article 458 Clause 1, carrying 15 years; Article 458 Clause 3, carrying 20 years; and Article 479 Clause 3, carrying 15 years imprisonment,” Iman stated.

The robbery and murder of Ermanto Usman and his wife occurred on Monday, 2 March. When found, Ermanto was dead, covered in blood, whilst his wife suffered severe injuries and was in critical condition at hospital. Police arrested the suspect on Monday, 9 March at 18:54 in Cilincing, North Jakarta.

Police revealed that the suspect had no specific target. “The suspect saw that the house was the largest in the area and assumed he could obtain a significant amount of valuables or items,” Iman explained.

The suspect acted alone in the early hours of Monday, 2 March, armed with scissors and a crowbar. He pried open a window and entered Ermanto Usman’s home. The suspect confessed to police that he killed Ermanto after being caught stealing. He struck both Ermanto and his wife with the crowbar he had used to force the window.

“When the female victim turned on the light and encountered the suspect, he spontaneously struck her with the crowbar he had been using to prise open the window,” Iman stated.

“When striking the female victim, because the bedroom door was open, the suspect saw the male victim sitting on the bed,” he added.

The suspect then panicked and attacked Ermanto directly. “In panic, the suspect immediately attacked the male victim who had just woken up and was sitting on the bed,” Iman concluded.
