Suspect in Bandung Woman's Confinement Case Held in Special Cell
The West Java Regional Police (Polda) have taken decisive action by placing Taufik Hidayat (TH), the suspect in the case involving the confinement and severe abuse of a woman with the initials YTR (29), in a special cell. The detention is being carried out at the West Java Police Headquarters under extra strict supervision throughout the examination process.
West Java Police Chief, Inspector General Rudi Setiawan, revealed that the suspect will be placed alone in a detention room equipped with closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras. This measure was taken to ensure the security and smooth progress of the investigation into the case, which has drawn significant public attention.
“We are detaining him in a special cell that has been fitted with CCTV, and the suspect is alone under our supervision,” Rudi stated in Bandung on Tuesday (23/6).
Currently, the investigative team is conducting an initial examination of the suspect to delve into the motive and chronology of the case. Rudi explained that once the initial examination is complete, official detention will be imposed, followed by a series of further examinations the next day.
In addition to the legal examination, the West Java Police also plan to involve several experts to complete the case file. One priority is the involvement of a psychiatric expert.
“We will involve several experts, including a psychiatric expert, so that we have initial data regarding the suspect’s psychological condition,” the Police Chief added.
Based on the preliminary investigation results, the actions taken by the suspect against the victim are considered extremely cruel and beyond the bounds of decency. The victim, YTR, is believed to have been confined and tortured for three years, resulting in permanent physical damage to several parts of her body.
Rudi presented the findings of the forensic medical team, which identified that some of the victim’s organs are no longer functioning normally due to the continuous violence she endured.
“The forensic doctors have identified damaged organs. Among them are the eyes, lips, there are slash marks from a sharp object on the legs, and cigarette burn marks,” he disclosed.
Taufik Hidayat was previously apprehended by West Java Police personnel at a relative’s house in the Griya Pesona Housing Complex, Ciparay, Bandung Regency, on Tuesday (23/6) afternoon. The police are now continuing to gather additional evidence to charge the suspect with multiple articles for these inhuman acts.
