Suspect arrested in JORR toll road car vandalism after admitting anger over not being given way
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Police have revealed the preliminary motive behind a car vandalism incident on the Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR) toll road that went viral on social media.
The suspect, identified as JF (27), admitted to being angered after feeling he was not given way while attempting to overtake the victim’s vehicle.
“The cause is still under investigation. What is clear is that the suspect felt he was not given way when attempting to overtake on the left,” stated AKP Pendi Wibison, Head of Subunit 1 of the Mobile Unit of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Criminal Investigation Directorate, in a video statement to journalists on Sunday (31 May 2026).
“The suspect was arrested at his residence in Ciputat, South Tangerang,” Pendi added.
Police apprehended JF following the viral social media video of his car vandalism against another driver.
In the footage, JF was seen arguing with the victim, Peter, before damaging the vehicle’s side mirror.
He faces charges under Article 521 of the Criminal Code for damaging or destroying property, which carries a maximum penalty of six months’ imprisonment or a fine of up to Rp10 million.
Based on dashcam footage circulating online, a vehicle was seen behind the victim’s car attempting to take the right lane.
Shortly after, a loud collision was heard. In subsequent footage, the suspect’s vehicle stopped in front of the victim’s car.
The suspect then got out and approached the victim.
“What’s the problem, sir?” Peter asked in the video.
“Why was I cut off on the right?” the suspect replied.
“Who cut you off? I had my indicator on, sir,” Peter responded.
