Suspect Arrested for Assaulting Cicalengka Police Chief and Military Commander While Breaking Up Brawl
Bandung – The Bandung Regency Police (Polresta Bandung) in West Java have arrested a suspect accused of assaulting Cicalengka Police Chief Commissioner Ade Rahmat and Cicalengka Military Commander Captain Inf. Sumarna while the two were attempting to break up a brawl in Cicalengka, Bandung Regency.
Bandung Police Chief Senior Commissioner Aldi Subartono said his team immediately took action and launched an investigation after the incident occurred, eventually leading to the suspect’s arrest.
“It is true that an assault incident occurred against the Cicalengka Police Chief and the Cicalengka Military Commander while both were trying to secure a brawl during a carnival event. The suspected perpetrator has been apprehended,” he said.
He explained that the incident began when the Tenjolaya Village Carnival procession passed near the Forkopimcam podium to take part in judging.
While the procession was at the location, a brawl broke out among participants, prompting the police chief and military commander to step down from the podium to defuse the heated situation.
However, the security effort was instead followed by an alleged assault against the police chief and military commander, as well as a member of the Pemuda Pancasila community organisation who was also helping to secure the situation.
As a result of the incident, the Cicalengka Police Chief and the community organisation member suffered facial injuries.
Police then conducted an investigation to identify the parties allegedly involved in the incident thoroughly and professionally in accordance with the law.
Police identified four people allegedly involved, namely RF, IA, YP, and F, and are further investigating the identity of another suspected perpetrator who was wearing a Karang Taruna uniform at the time of the incident for further examination.
Aldi said the case handling process is being carried out in accordance with applicable legal provisions and investigators are still examining the sequence of events.
“We will follow up on this incident professionally in accordance with the applicable legal provisions in this case,” he said.
The Bandung Regency Police confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing, with officers tracing statements from witnesses examined by police to fully uncover the sequence of events and the roles of each party allegedly involved in the incident.
