Susilo to reform bureaucracy

JAKARTA: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono plans to immediately form a special team tasked with reforming the country's weak bureaucracy, as part of efforts to eliminate corruption in the country.

Deputy chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Erry Riyana Hardjapamekas said the commission had long proposed the establishment of the team.

"President Susilo has agreed to our request to immediately reform the bureaucracy by setting up a special team. However, the composition of the team and its detailed tasks are still being discussed with the agency," said Erry in a press conference held after a meeting between the KPK and the President on Friday.

Erry expects the reform drive in the bureaucracy could be completed by 2010, as conveyed by Susilo during the meeting. -- JP
