Susanto extends winning run

JAKARTA: Susanto Megaranto extended his winning streak to three at the Junior World Chess Championship in Oropesa del Mar, in southern Spain, after beating local hopeful Cuenca Jimenez Jose in the third round on Tuesday.

Susanto's first two victims were also from Spain. The three consecutive wins gave the 13-year-old Indonesian, who is competing in the U-14 category, a perfect 3 points.

In the U-12 competition, Andrean's winning run came to a halt when he was held to a draw by Li Haoyu of China. Andrean, who finished seventh in the U-10 category last year, has now collected 2.5 points after three matches.

Boy Reinhard, the other Indonesian representative playing in the U-10 class, also settled for a draw in his match against Wolfram Kevin of Australia. It was his third draw in as many game. --JP
