SINGAPORE (Reuter): Indonesian property and hotels group PT Surya Semesta Internusa will spend US$55 million on a new luxury resort on the island of Bali, the resort's managing company said yesterday.
Cecilia Leong-Faulkner, director of marketing communications at Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts, told a briefing that construction of the new complex was due to begin this month and would be completed by the third quarter of 1998.
Banyan Tree Ungasan, comprising 200 exclusive sea-front villas, would be the seventh Banyan Tree resort, she said.
Banyan Tree is part of Singapore private industrial conglomerate Wah-Chang International Corp.
Leong-Faulkner said Banyan Tree expected to open two more resorts by 1999 on Mahe, Seychelles and at Manado, Indonesia. She declined to give financial details.
