PT Suryacipta Swadaya (Suryacipta), a subsidiary of PT Surya Semesta Internusa Tbk (SSIA), participated as a speaker in the business forum ‘Indonesia Infrastructure Transformation - Unlocking Cross Border Investment Opportunities’ on Wednesday, 4 March, organised by HSBC and the Federation of Hong Kong Industries. In the seminar session followed by a panel discussion, Suryacipta shared strategic perspectives on the evolution of Indonesia’s industrial estate sector as it welcomes the relocation of global supply chains to Southeast Asia. The presence of Suryacipta at the forum is crucial given Hong Kong’s vital role as one of the world’s financial hubs. Hong Kong also serves as a Super-Connector for Mainland Chinese companies to channel capital into the Indonesian market. Currently, Hong Kong asserts itself as the second-largest source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) for Indonesia. According to the latest data, Hong Kong’s FDI contribution reaches US$35.5 billion for the period 2021-2025. Moreover, with Hong Kong as the world’s largest re-export hub, many manufacturing companies based there are now looking to Indonesia as a strategic production base to diversify their supply chains amid the dynamics of global trade. Representing Suryacipta, Abednego Purnomo, Chief Commercial Officer, outlined the fundamental transformation of Indonesia’s industrial ecosystem before Hong Kong manufacturing players. According to Abed, Indonesia’s appeal to multinational manufacturers has shifted. ‘Modern industrial estates no longer merely provide land; they offer full integration of logistics, digital infrastructure and the energy transition,’ he said. This shift aligns with the national ambitious target to reduce logistics costs from 23% of GDP to 8% by 2045. Suryacipta supports this through the realisation of an industrial estate development directly connected to national strategic infrastructure, Subang Smartpolitan in Subang, West Java. One key catalyst highlighted is the role of Patimban Port in Subang, West Java, which is targeted to become Indonesia’s largest automotive port and will play a crucial role in international logistics distribution. In the panel discussion, it emerged that speed-to-market is a major concern for Hong Kong investors. In response, Abed explained that the synergy between regulatory reform and the region’s infrastructure readiness has substantially shortened the realisation time of investments, providing operational certainty for companies wishing to commence production in Indonesia. GREEN INDUSTRIALISATION TREND Moreover, the green industrialisation trend is no longer merely an option but a new standard. Industrial estate developers in Indonesia, including integrated self-contained cities like Subang Smartpolitan, ‘Green, Smart, and Sustainable City’, are embedding sustainability into their ecosystems. The development of industrial and commercial land in this area is paired with the deployment of smart technologies, some of which support businesses in realising their sustainability commitments and measurable net-zero targets. Concluding his remarks, Abed highlighted rapid growth in Indonesia’s secondary sector, particularly in the metal industry, which dominates Hong Kong’s FDI with a contribution of 19.7% during 2021-2025. The emergence of strategic opportunities in electric vehicle (EV) battery production and pharmaceuticals is also projected to be major drivers of industrial land demand in the future, while becoming a new pillar for the region’s economic growth. He stressed that selecting industry partners with well-developed supply chain networks is a crucial factor in optimising long-term operating cost efficiency. This underpins the development of Subang Smartpolitan, where Suryacipta aims to provide an ecosystem capable of facilitating businesses to realise more efficient, smarter and sustainable industrial operations in Indonesia.
