Surya Paloh Remembers Rachmat Gobel: A Hard Worker, Easy to Get Along With

Surya Paloh, General Chairman of the NasDem Party, has shared his memories of the late Rachmat Gobel, describing him as a hard-working man who was easy to get along with.

Surya said he felt a profound loss following the death of the NasDem faction member of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Friday (10/7).

“Today, we — myself personally, my family, the extended NasDem Party family, and the friends of the late Bung Doctor Rachmat Gobel — feel deep sorrow,” said Surya at Rachmat Gobel’s residence on Jalan Prof. Dr. Soepomo, South Jakarta, on Friday (10/7).

As reported by CNBC Indonesia, Surya said the news of his death came very suddenly. According to him, Rachmat had still been carrying out his duties as a member of parliament just one day earlier.

He called on the public to pray that the deceased may be granted the best place at God’s side.

On that occasion, Surya reflected on Rachmat’s journey as both a politician and a businessman. He said the son of the late Thayeb Gobel was a figure of great dedication, both in the business world and in carrying out his mandate as a public official.

“He was a hard worker, he was easy to get along with, and I feel as though I have lost a younger brother,” Surya said.

It is understood that Rachmat Gobel passed away on Friday morning (10/7). He was known as a businessman and politician, and had also previously served as a minister during the Jokowi era.
