Surya Paloh Hears Proposal for Presidential Threshold to Require Minimum Support from Two Parliamentary Factions

NasDem Party Chairman Surya Paloh has acknowledged hearing suggestions regarding the presidential threshold. Paloh stated that the input he received concerns the model of the presidential threshold, specifically that presidential candidate pairs should be supported by a minimum of two factions in the House of Representatives (DPR).

“I have heard clear input that the change in the model of support for the president would be based on a minimum of two factions,” Paloh told reporters at NasDem Tower, Gondangdia, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (19/09/2026).

He noted that this proposal is similar to the presidential threshold regulations that existed before the changes made by the Constitutional Court (MK). However, he stated that he does not have an issue with such a suggestion.

“In my view, that is fine; it is essentially the same. If the parliamentary threshold is high, then two factions would also represent a significant number of votes,” Paloh remarked.
