Surya Hutani Jaya's owners

JAKARTA (JP): PT Surya Hutani Jaya forestry company clarified here on Monday that its share-ownership was by no means related to businessmen Mohammad Bob Hasan nor to Hutomo Tommy Mandala Putra, as several print media implied last week in their stories about the abuse of reforestation funds.

"Surya Hutani Jaya is 60 percent owned by publicly listed PT Sumalindo Lestari Jaya and 40 percent by state-owned PT Inhutani I forestry company," Surya Hutani's spokesperson Irtamazati Husna said in a release.

Husna confirmed that Surya Hutani used Rp 207.82 billion (US$27.7 million) in reforestation funds for the development of 96,450 hectares of industrial timber estates, which were wholly completed in June, 1998.

The reforestation fund, consisting of Rp 36.55 billion in government equity, Rp 84.86 billion in interest-free loan and Rp 86.40 billion in commercial loan, had been used wholly for the timber estate project, Husna added.
