Surya Group Chief Covers Medical Costs and Grants Scholarship to Accident Victim in Kulon Progo

Muhammad Suryo, founder of Surya Group and HS tobacco entrepreneur, is gradually recovering from a motorbike accident in Simpang Empat Mlangsen, Palihan Village, Temon District, Kulon Progo, on the afternoon of Sunday 1 March 2026. Despite being in the recovery phase and having lost his wife, Anis Syarifah, who was buried on Monday 2 March 2026, Suryo has continued to demonstrate a strong humanitarian commitment to fellow victims, namely Abdullah and his son Deva. Suryo is currently receiving treatment at RS JIH, while Abdullah and Deva are receiving intensive care in the VIP ward of RSUD Wates, Kulon Progo, with all medical costs fully covered by Surya Group. In line with his sense of responsibility and fraternity, a representative of Suryo visited Abdullah’s wife at RSUD Wates to offer condolences and convey concrete assistance on Tuesday 2 March 2026. The Suryo family said they would fully bear the cost of Abdullah and Deva’s medical treatment until they fully recover. In addition to medical costs, Suryo has provided a brand-new motorcycle to replace the damaged vehicle. He also guarantees Deva’s educational future by providing a full scholarship through to university level, with Deva currently in fourth grade at primary school. “We ask for prayers that Mr Suryo’s recovery and the victims’ recovery proceed smoothly,” said a representative of Haji Suryo on Wednesday 4 March 2026. A moment of emotion filled the conversation between Suryo and Abdullah, the motorbike accident victim in Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta. Suryo, who remains hospitalised at RS JIH in Yogyakarta after the accident, began the exchange with an expression of apology. Although still suffering leg injuries, Suryo reiterated his apology for not yet being able to visit Abdullah in person. “I apologise, Sir, I cannot come to visit yet. I also ask forgiveness if I have any fault, please forgive me,” Suryo said via video call. Abdullah, who is being treated at RSUD Wates, responded with an apology of his own, saying that he did not wish for the accident that claimed Suryo’s wife, Anis Syarifah, to have happened. “No, Sir. I also apologise, Sir, there is no fault on anyone here. I am also at fault. This is not what anyone wants,” Abdullah said. Abdullah’s tears flowed when Suryo explained that he would have preferred them both to be treated at RS JIH, and not separately. Abdullah thanked Suryo for covering all treatment costs. “You are very remarkable indeed, Sir. Thank you very much for handling everything,” Abdullah said. During the exchange, Suryo enquired after Deva’s condition. Abdullah replied that his son was being treated very well. “My child had an operation yesterday, Sir, but there is still ongoing bleeding from the leg,” Abdullah said. “Please accept my condolences, Sir.” “Likewise, Sir. I also offer my condolences for your wife. No one wishes for any of this. If there is anything I have done wrong, I apologise,” Abdullah added. Abdullah’s tears flowed as Suryo spoke.
