Surveyor Indonesia: Business world needs to mitigate climate change risks
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Director of PT Surveyor Indonesia (Persero), Fajar Wibhiyadi, stated that climate change has become a risk that needs to be mitigated by the business world. “Climate change is no longer just an environmental issue, but has become a risk factor that needs to be mitigated in a measurable way by the business world,” Fajar said in his statement in Jakarta on Friday. Therefore, a data-based approach is very necessary to understand the potential business risks related to climate change. “Companies need a data-based approach to understand potential risks that can affect operations, assets, or future business sustainability,” he added. He said that the Indonesian government, through the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (PPN/Bappenas), assesses that with the increasing challenges of climate change and hydrometeorological disaster risks, the green economy will become the core of the national development strategy. “Without adequate mitigation and adaptation steps, it has the potential to cause economic losses,” said Fajar. He stated that his company supports the government’s efforts in mitigating climate change, while committing to supporting the green economy that has been planned by the government. “We believe that regarding this climate change, it is certainly not enough to just be the government’s concern, but also requires strategic steps taken by the business world and society,” he said. Furthermore, Fajar said that the need for sustainability assurance and climate risk assessment is also increasing along with the development of the implementation of ESG principles in various industrial sectors. One of them is through the SIClirisk digital solution that has been launched by the company. “The development of SIClirisk is part of PT Surveyor Indonesia’s strategy in strengthening Green Services and Sustainability Assurance as part of the TICC (Testing, Inspection, Certification, and Consultation) industry transformation,” he said. He added that through SIClirisk, business actors can be assisted in identifying, analysing, and mitigating climate risks more comprehensively through the use of geospatial technology, AI, and data analytics. “It is hoped that SIClirisk can support business actors in strengthening climate risk management, increasing sustainability transparency, and supporting transformation towards more sustainable business practices,” said Fajar.
