Washington (ANTARA) - The majority of respondents in a poll conducted by SSRS for CNN stated they were satisfied with US President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address to Congress, but remain doubtful about his ability to control the cost of living.

The survey, released on Wednesday (February 25th), showed that almost two-thirds of respondents viewed the speech positively, with 38 percent of them expressing a “very positive” view.

The poll also noted that Trump’s speech was watched by Republican supporters at a rate approximately 13 percent higher than the overall CNN audience composition.

After the speech, 64 percent of respondents said that Trump’s policies would lead the United States in the right direction, while 54 percent felt that the president’s policy priorities were appropriate.

However, respondents remain doubtful about Trump’s ability to fulfil his promise to control the cost of living.

Prior to the speech, the majority of viewers hoped that Trump would address economic issues and the cost of living, but nearly half of the respondents (45 percent) subsequently felt that the speech did not adequately address these issues.

Trump’s speech to Congress was the longest in history, lasting 107 minutes, or one hour and 47 minutes. The previous record was held by former Democratic President Bill Clinton.

The State of the Union address is an annual constitutional mandate for the US president to address Congress, summarizing the government’s achievements, assessing the national condition, and outlining the priority policy agenda for the future.
