Bandung, VIVA – Public satisfaction with the West Java Provincial Government has surged sharply. The latest survey released by Indikator Politik Indonesia recorded an approval rating of 95.5 per cent for West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi (KDM). Indikator Politik assessed that this figure is not only exceptionally high but also approaches the national record for a regional leader.

The survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews from 30 January to 8 February 2026 with respondents from West Java. Burhanuddin Muhtadi, founder and principal researcher at Indikator, described the achievement as remarkable, particularly as it represents an increase from the survey conducted during Dedi’s first 100 days in office in May 2025.

“This 95.5 per cent approval rating is very high. It has even risen compared to the results of the first 100-day survey after his inauguration in May 2025. Given such an already very high baseline, this increase is certainly no easy feat,” said Burhanuddin in Bandung on Monday, 16 February 2026.

Nevertheless, the same survey also recorded a considerable gap between satisfaction levels for the governor and the deputy governor. Public satisfaction with West Java Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan was above 50 per cent but trailed Dedi’s rating by approximately 40 points.

“This is noteworthy because there is quite a sharp gap between satisfaction with the governor and the deputy governor,” he said.

Overall, satisfaction with the performance of the West Java Provincial Government stood at an average of 71 per cent. Indikator tested 23 public service variables, all of which showed improvement compared to the first 100-day survey. The sectors most strongly underpinning public satisfaction included electricity provision, education, health, infrastructure quality, and improvements in the number and condition of roads. In these sectors, satisfaction levels ranged between 80 and 90 per cent.

However, not all sectors recorded encouraging results. Economic aspects remained a weak point. Several economic indicators fell below 60 per cent, with access to capital improvement recorded at below 50 per cent.

“Economic issues need to receive serious attention, especially amid efficiency policies and cuts to transfers to regional governments that are affecting local government fiscal space,” said Burhanuddin.

On the other hand, Indikator also flagged the potential for partisan effects that could influence public assessments. Approval ratings above 90 per cent were deemed extremely rare for regional leaders in Indonesia.
