Survey: Household Income and Education Levels Rise in Singapore

Singapore’s population has become more educated, more affluent, and more likely to own their own homes between 2020 and 2025, although the number of single young adults continues to rise, according to an official survey released on Tuesday (30/6).

The median monthly household income from work rose to S$12,446 (US$9,618) in 2025, up from S$9,099 five years earlier. This represents a nominal annual growth of 6.5 per cent, according to the General Household Survey 2025 by the Singapore Department of Statistics. On a per household member basis, the median income increased to S$4,160 from S$2,952.

The survey showed the resident population reached 4.20 million in 2025. Among residents aged 25 and over, 64.8 per cent held post-secondary or higher qualifications in 2025, an increase from 58.3 per cent in 2020.

Home ownership also climbed, with 91.2 per cent of resident households owning their home in 2025, compared to 87.9 per cent in 2020.

The survey also found a growing number of young adults remaining single. Among women aged 25 to 29, the proportion who were single rose to 73.4 per cent from 69 per cent in 2020, while for men aged 30 to 34, the figure increased to 47.6 per cent from 41.9 per cent. Despite this trend, married couples with children remained the most common household form, accounting for 47.6 per cent of all resident households, though this was down from 50.4 per cent in 2020.
