Survey by 3 Institutions Reveals Indonesians' Stance on US-Israel War Against Iran
The Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) conducted a survey in collaboration with Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) and Indikator Politik Indonesia regarding public legitimacy for the United States-Israel war against Iran. The results show that 83% of respondents in Indonesia stated they do not agree with the US-Israel attacks on Iran.
The survey was carried out from 12-31 March 2026, analysing a sample of 1,066 respondents with a margin of error of ±3%. This survey used the double sampling research method, where researchers selected samples randomly, and selected respondents were interviewed either face-to-face or by telephone.
The Lead Researcher of Indikator Politik Indonesia, Burhanuddin Muhtadi, said the respondents were asked the question: “To what extent do you agree or disagree with the US-Israel attacks on Iran?” Then, respondents answered with indicators of strongly agree, agree, disagree, strongly disagree, or between agree and disagree.
The survey results indicate that 60.1% disagree, 23% strongly disagree, while 7.4% answered between agree and disagree, 4.7% answered agree, 0.2% strongly agree, and 4.5% of respondents answered do not know or did not answer.
“So, support at the attitude level towards the Israel and US attacks is only 4.9%, so very small, this is a super minority group. Meanwhile, 83% say they disagree with Israel and the US attacking Iran for any reason,” said the Lead Researcher of Indikator Politik Indonesia, Burhanuddin Muhtadi, at a press conference broadcast live on YouTube SMRC TV, Thursday (2/4/2026).
In addition, the survey results also show that the majority of respondents, or 68.8%, stated they do not want or strongly do not want to convince others that America and Israel are on the right side in the war against Iran. Meanwhile, only 13.7% of respondents stated they want or strongly want to convince others that the US and Israel are on the right side.
Furthermore, respondents were also asked about their willingness to become health volunteers for US-Israel troops in the war against Iran. The results show that 74.4% of respondents stated they do not want to become health volunteers to help the US-Israel troops’ medical team.
“‘Do you want to become a health volunteer for US and Israel troops because they are attacking Iran?’ Again, those who want to do that are only around 12-13%, so very small, the majority stated they do not want or strongly do not want,” he said.
“So simply, we have strong indications that support for those attacks is not legitimate among the national population because it is too small,” he added.
Previously, the entire Middle East region has been on alert since the US and Israel launched a large-scale joint attack on Iran on 28 February. A total of at least 1,340 people were killed due to the series of US-Israel attacks in various regions of Iran, including the country’s highest leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran retaliated with waves of missile and drone attacks on targets in Israel and Gulf countries hosting US military assets.
Iran’s retaliatory attacks triggered damage and injuries in Israel and Gulf countries. At least 13 US troops in Gulf countries were killed due to Iran’s series of retaliatory attacks. More than 300 other US troops were injured.
