Survey: 60 Percent of Britons View US as Having a Negative Impact on the World

More than 60 percent of Britons believe the United States has a predominantly negative impact on the world, according to a survey by research institute YouGov released on Friday, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of US Independence Day on 4 July. “Currently, 64 percent of Britons view the United States more as a force for ill in the world, while only 9 percent see it as a force for good, and 11 percent say neither,” the survey results stated. YouGov noted that during the administration of former US President Joe Biden, the average number of respondents holding this view was 39 percent. The survey also showed that 28 percent of respondents believe the US has been a source of negative influence throughout the 250 years since its independence. Meanwhile, 38 percent gave a positive assessment of the US role during that period. On a separate note, 10 percent of respondents said they did not support US independence from Great Britain. The YouGov survey was conducted on 10–11 June, involving 2,058 British adults as respondents. The institute did not include a margin of error in its survey results.
