Washington – A public opinion poll conducted in the United States shows that 57 per cent of Americans support Palestinian independence, nearly matching a Gallup vote conducted in 2003.

According to the latest Gallup polling, which is the largest probability-based research panel in the United States, there has been a significant shift in American public attitude towards Israel and Palestine compared with previous years.

The polling shows that 65 per cent of Democratic Party participants say their sympathy leans towards Palestine, whilst 17 per cent are more sympathetic to Israel.

The survey also shows that 70 per cent of Republican Party participants are more sympathetic to Israel, compared with 13 per cent who are more sympathetic to Palestine.

Although the margin remains sizeable, sympathy from Republican ranks for Israel has fallen by 10 percentage points since 2024 to the lowest level since 2004.

The poll shows that 41 per cent of independent voters are sympathetic to Palestine, compared with 30 per cent who are sympathetic to Israel. Meanwhile, in previous years, 42 per cent of votes supported Israel and 34 per cent supported Palestine.
