East Flores Regency is still struggling with five emergency response statuses that have yet to be lifted. This situation has led the area to be dubbed a disaster regency.

This was revealed by the Regent of East Flores, Antonius Doni Dihen, during the opening of the 2026 annual work plan workshop between Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and the East Flores Regency Government.

“East Flores has become a disaster regency. Everything is still on, not off. There are five emergency response statuses: emergency response to the Mount Lewotobi eruption, cold lahar flood, extreme weather, natural disaster of earthquake, people fighting and social issues,” said Regent Anton on Wednesday (22/4/2026).

Anton Doni stated that the community needs to remain alert and prepared to face various natural disaster upheavals.

“This preparedness is also necessary,” he added.

Amid these conditions, the government is also preparing the construction of permanent housing for affected residents.

Anton said that in 2026, 244 houses will be built in Todo, Titehana Sub-district, East Flores.

“This year, there are 244 houses in the candidate permanent housing (huntap) in Todo, with an area of 26 hectares,” he explained.

He stated that the East Flores Regency Government will handle the land acquisition administration in May and June, starting from measuring coordinate points to the forest area.

“After that, we hand over the land to the central government for construction. The planning tender until September, then build those 244 houses,” he emphasised.
